The picture to the left is of Sarlat. The other pictures are of a hill side village called Rocamadour. The pictures show the chateau at the top, the church is half way down and the village at the bottom. We parked at the top near the chateau and then went half way down through the rock on a cliff lift. We then walked to the bottom to the village. All of the buildings date from around the 13th century. Most of the buildings including the church are built into the rock face.

Hi everyone - we have been in the Dordogne for 10 days and will be leaving here on Thursday for the coast.
The two pictures of gardens are at Les jardins suspendus de Marqueyssac - there are 150,000 boxwoods that are cut into the shapes you can see. The gardens of Marqueyssac , listed as a National historical monument, is a private estate dating from the 17th century. After extensive restoration work the gardens were opened to the public in 1997. Today it is the most visited garden in the Dordogne.
The other picture is of a town called Sarlat which is about 10km from our campsite. It is a typical old french town with the original medieval buildings restored. Sorry only 3 pics on this blog but the wi fi conection is not to good so hopefully we will have more on our next blog.

Hi everyone -we left the coast on Monday 14th June and travelled 78 miles north to the mediaeval city of Carcassonne. As you can see our caravan pitch was the size of a football field. The walled city of Carcassonne has been rebuilt several times but the original building is dated around 1226. The mediaeval walled town lies on the right bank of the river Aude and is featured on UNESCO's world heritage list. It has 52 towers and 2 rings of town walls making a total of 3km of battlements. It is still home today to it's population of approx. 120 and has a large number of shops and craftware and was only 15mins walk from our caravan site.
We left after 3 days to travel another 160 miles north around Toulouse to arrive where we are today which is just outside the town of Sarlat in the Dordogne. We are stopping here for 2 weeks.

Hi everyone Our 18 days in the South of France are over and we are starting to move north tomorrow (only about 80 miles though). The beach pictures and the picture with our lucky mascot looking out of the carvan window (we've now sacked him!!) show what the weather can turn like after a very HOT spell.

The other pictures are of a large town called Sete and and Marseillan which are on the shores of Bassan du Thau - this is a very very large lake. The Canal Du Midi which was on our previous blog finishes here at this lake and then empties into the Med at Sete.

We have now been here at Marseillan Plage which is in the South of France for 10 days. The beach in the photo's is less than a 1 min away from our caravan pitch. The pictures of the harbour are of Cap D Agde which is a few miles away from us.
A few days ago we visited Beziers 30 kilometers inland from us - passing through this town is Le Canal du Midi which was built in 1789 to link Bordeaux on the Atlantic coast to Sete (which is a large town just to the north of us). The flight of 9 locks which is shown in the photo's is one of the steepest lifts on the canal.
